04.04.2004 - 02.05.2004 / Kunsthalle Faust

After the worldwide success of Ralf Mohr’s books “Pregnant” and “Family Nudes”, the Hanoverian photographer’s third photo book “Contemporary Nude Portraits“ surprised and deeply impressed at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2003.

Being naked is connected with both – shame and courage. To “show” oneself mostly means to overcome one’s inhibitions. But if this is once done, often the person’s true colors, an authentic personality comes to light. Capturing this moment and to visualize it, makes it possible for others to experience it, too. The observer is able to share the moment, to be part of it and is welcome to observe and see what other human beings reveal. More than 50 “ordinary” people had the heart to show themselves to the photographer Ralf Mohr in their very private surroundings. The nudity and presence in these black-and-white photos bring characters to light.

“Pregnant” as well as “Family Nudes” were the most frequently visited exhibitions of their respective exhibition sites in Hanover: 1999 at Kubus, 2001 at the Kunsthalle Faust. Several thousand visitors were touched by the haunting photographic shots by Ralf Mohr. In his third photo book, too, Mohr portrays people in their private surroundings – always following the truth of the moment.
